Sofia is the capital city of the country and as such, abounds with opportunitites for recreation and entertainment. Concerts, fine dining, discos and cinemas: whatever you prefer will be on your doorstep... and cheap! Sofia has a large international population and most young people in Bulgaria speak English so you won''t feel challenged with the language but of course you can pick it up when you make local friends.
In terms of travel, Bulgaria has extremely diverse geography so you can be up in the Vitosha mountain in 30 minutes, go climbing or paragliding, fishing in the numerous lakes, or pop by the seaside for a sunny holiday: it is all within easy reach! Internationally, you have access to a number of budget airlines flying to anywhere in Western Europe and if you are more adventurous, you can also easily explore the Middle East.
The prices are low so your salary of 1,800 EUR per month will take you a long, long way! With 15% flat tax rate and the cost of a central apartment around 250 EUR monthly, you will have a large amount of disposable income to spend on personal expenses and entertainment.
