Our Berkshire-based client is a high-profile company that offers fully integrated clinical, commercial, and consulting services worldwide. Our client is looking for talented and innovative individuals who are passionate about healthcare communication to support sustained and profitable growth across the company. Amongst other scientific and editorial positions, our client is currently seeking a Senior Editor to take a key role the production of high-quality educational materials for pharmaceutical clients. This position will suit experienced copy editors or production editors keen to combine technical excellence with line management responsibilities.


Key responsibilities:

  • Edit and proof-read copy for a range of educational materials (manuscripts, slide decks, brochures, web copy, etc.).

  • Edit manuscripts to required style/specifications, paying attention to accuracy of factual content, editorial consistency, and grammar.

  • Interpret and incorporate client and author amends and liaise with clients, authors, opinion leaders, speakers and internal staff to gain final approvals for all copy.

  • Assist with the development of production schedules and manage the progression of approved copy through all stages to print in accordance with agreed budgets and timelines.

  • Check proofs at all stages of development and monitor quality of published materials.

  • Prepare manuscripts for page layout / typesetting.

  • Liaise with designers to develop design options for a range of materials.

  • Critically appraise design concepts and layouts, offering constructive feedback for improvement/correction.

  • Work with freelance editors as necessary, and manage workload to meet timelines.

  • Attend project and production team meetings.

  • Write copy as and when required.

  • Assist with the line management of less-experienced editorial staff.


Experience required:

  • Science or Life Science degree.

  • Several years’ experience in an editorial role, with at least 3 years’ experience in a medical communications agency.

  • Experience of mentoring staff and training editorial process.

  • Excellent command of the English language.

  • Proven copy editing and proof-reading skills, including familiarity with BSI proof-reading marks.

  • Sufficient therapy area knowledge to facilitate review of copy and incorporation of client/author amends.

  • Critical eye for design and layout with excellent attention to detail.

  • Working knowledge of the print and production process.

  • Excellent organisational, project-, and time-management skills.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Budget awareness.
