Our client is currently recruiting a number of new staff and there is an immediate vacancy for a Senior Medical Writer. Our client is looking for someone who can manage the delivery of high-quality science-based programmes to support pharmaceutical marketing activities.
Manage the timely delivery of scientific content for a range of medical communications.
Take the role of Lead Writer on one or more accounts, develop high-quality copy, and be the main point of contact for client and key opinion leaders.
Review materials written by other members of the team for scientific content and monitor quality, style and accuracy.
Ensure that client’s marketing objectives are met and that key messages are supported appropriately.
Liaise with clients and leading medical experts and work to build client relationships.
For assigned projects and programmes of work, maintain current awareness of developments in relevant therapy areas.
Contribute to the development of account plans, strategic publication plans and strategic communication programmes.
With Scientific Services Director, make recommendations for resource allocation and assist with the recruitment of new staff.
Coach and mentor less-experienced writers to help them achieve their full potential
Make recommendations for training to the Scientific Services Director.
Work with the Scientific Services Director to prepare and update SOPs and training programmes, and assist with the delivery or training.
Contribute to, or conduct, performance and learning & development reviews.
Provide editorial quotes for budgeting purposes.
Monitor hours against budget and complete timesheets in an accurate and timely way.
Contribute to revenue targets by progressing sold projects as soon as is reasonably possible.
Work with Account Management to identify new business opportunities within accounts.
Provide scientific expertise to the development of new business pitches and proposals.
Attend team and editorial meetings and support team working principles within the business unit and the company.
Travel to support client activities and on-site meetings as necessary.
Degree in life sciences, pharmacy or medicine. Higher degree preferred.
At least 2 years’ experience as a medical/scientific writer in the pharmaceutical industry, healthcare, medical communications, clinical research, academic research or publishing.
Proven experience of reviewing work of other writers in a medical communications agency.
Previous management or supervisory experience.
Excellent verbal communication and client liaison skills.
A broad range of therapeutic area expertise.
Ability to communicate complex scientific ideas to a range of target audience.
Ability to integrate into a team and support other team members in all aspects of the work.
Good organisational skills with excellent time- and project-management capability.
Good budget awareness.
An in-depth understanding of the pharmaceutical marketing business combined with a strong customer focus.
